Terms of Use and Privacy Policy

We know that legal jargon is really dull and drier than that mystery rainbow meat sandwich in the cafeteria. But we think it’s important to set the “rules of the road” for using BeMe, and to let you know your rights as a member of the BeMe Community.

The Privacy Policy helps you understand what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it and share it with others, and how you can manage your information.

Your Use of BeMe

  • To use BeMe, you must be at least 13 years old. If you think someone on BeMe is under age 13, please let us know. If we find out you’re underage, we will have to close your account until you’re an official teenager.
  • When you sign up for BeMe, you agree to follow these Terms of Use. We can revise these terms, and the new TOS will apply. And if we do, we will let you know by a notice on the website and the app.
  • BeMe is not a medical provider and does not provide medical advice. If you are experiencing a mental health or a medical emergency, call 911! Always seek the advice of your doctor or a licensed health care provider if you need help with a medical or a mental health problem.
  • Don’t use BeMe to engage in any illegal or shady behaviors. If you think it might be illegal or shady, don’t do it.
  • Don’t use anybody else’s account or their username or password without their permission. This behavior is not cool, and we reserve the right to close or suspend your account if you do. Don’t share your password with anyone else. And if you find out that someone else is using your password, change your password right away, and let us know what happened.
  • We will not tolerate any behavior or content that directs hate against a person or a group of people based on race, ethnic background, religion, gender orientation, or disability. If you experience abusive behavior on BeMe or see content that you feel violates our Community Guidelines, let us know.
  • Be nice to others, including our coaches. We want to help you, but we won’t put up with bad behavior.
  • The content on BeMe belongs to BeMe (unless it is content you provide), and the BeMe software belongs to BeMe. It is protected by copyright laws, which means that you can’t change it and you can’t take it and use it for any purpose other than getting services from BeMe.
  • Don’t put content belonging to others on BeMe. If we learn that you have posted content that is owned by someone else, we’ll need to take it down.
  • If you are a programming whiz, that’s great! But you can’t use your access to BeMe to reverse engineer our code or copy our stuff.
  • If BeMe provides links or references to other websites, remember that BeMe does not monitor or investigate those websites. If you go to another website, make sure you look at their terms of use and privacy policy to see how they use your information.
  • You are responsible for your actions on BeMe. If you have questions about the rules, please look at our Community Guidelines or ask us for help.
  • If you violate any of the BeMe rules, we can close or suspend your account. If we close or suspend your account, you can appeal it by contacting BeMe Customer Support.
  • If you are 18 years or older, or if you are an emancipated minor, there is more “legal stuff” for you to read and agree to. Click here!

Our Privacy Policy

By using BeMe, you agree to the use of your information as described in this Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree to these terms, don’t sign up. This Privacy Policy applies to your “personal information” (information that identifies you).

What information does BeMe collect?

  • We collect personal information you provide to us. This information may include your name, email address, and mobile phone number. We also collect your date of birth to make sure you are at least 13 years old. You can also provide your picture when you create your profile, and you can provide images and personal information about your interests when you are using the services. We will also ask you to fill out a safety plan with contact information of who you want us to call if you need help. It’s completely up to you whether you want to give us this information (other than your date of birth).
  • We will also collect information to make the services work. This will include your device type (Apple or Android) and device ID, which version of an operating system you’re using, your location, your registration information (including your username), and information about how you use your BeMe account. Where we partner with an educational system to provide these services, we may also collect your student id number.
  • If you decide to do BeMe coaching, our system will also contain your text messages with the BeMe Coach.
  • Depending on how you use the services, we may also collect video content and other information you might post in community chat features.
  • We may also collect information to get your feedback on how we are doing.

What do we access on your device?

  • To make certain features work on BeMe, we may ask for your permission to access your camera or microphone. If you don’t want to grant access, that’s fine, but some features on BeMe won’t work. If you decide to grant access and later want to cancel our access, you can change this in your device settings.

How will we use your information at BeMe?

  • We use the information we collect about you to provide services to you on the BeMe website and the BeMe app.
  • We will use the information we collect to contact you when necessary.
  • The information we collect is used to keep things running smoothly and to provide us with information to improve BeMe. To do this, we may rely on third-party tools like Google Analytics.
  • We will also use your information to alert your emergency contacts if we think you plan to hurt yourself or someone else. Your safety is our top priority!
  • Coaches and coach supervisors talk to each other to make sure we are supporting teens in the best way we can.
  • If you decide to participate in BeMe group coaching sessions, you will have the choice about whether to share your information through with other teens. Be careful about sharing information with others, such as where you live or your direct contact information. Other teens might like you more than you like them, and you don’t want to be contacted without your permission.

Will we share your information with anyone outside of BeMe?

  • We may need to share information to comply with laws or our legal obligations, or to protect your rights.
  • If you do BeMe coaching, we will not share that information with people outside of BeMe, except in two cases. First, if we are concerned you might harm yourself or another person, we may need to take steps to keep everyone safe. Second, if we think you are in an abusive situation, we may be required by law to report this to the child protective service agency in your state.
  • We may need to share information to help run our business and improve our services. For example, we might hire a company to help us design cool services for teens. If that company needs access to your information to help us design services, we’ll get a contract in place with them to make sure they protect your information, too.
  • We will not sell your personal information.

Do we use cookies?

  • We may use cookies or other technologies to collect and store your information in the app or the website and provide you with a great experience. You don’t have to accept those cookies, but that may affect how the website and app works. We also like to eat cookies, but you can’t get those cookies through the app.
  • At this time, we do not respond to a browser’s “do not track” signals.

How about if you use a social login to access BeMe?

  • If you choose to register with BeMe using your social logins, the social media account may send information from your social media account to us. Also, if you use your social login to create your BeMe account, another person that has access to your social media account will also have access to your BeMe account. That means that other person could access personal information you put in your BeMe account. It’s your decision about whether to give another person access to your social media account and whether to use that account to sign on to BeMe.

How will we communicate with you?

  • Mostly, we will communicate with you through the website or the app. If you provide us with your mobile phone or email, we may also call you or send you text messages or emails. You understand that text messages and emails may not be a secure way of communicating because they could get hacked, and that message and data charges may apply. If you provide us with your mobile phone or email, you consent to us calling you and to the use of texting and emailing as part of our services.

How long will we store your information?

  • We will retain your information for as long as you have an active account with BeMe. We will delete your data 6 months after you close your account or after you have not used your account for 12 months.

What are your privacy rights?

  • You can review your information, correct your information, request a copy of your information, or get more information about what information we provide to third parties. You can also ask us to delete the information in your account, but we can’t ensure complete removal of the content.
  • BeMe does not use your personal information to do targeted advertising or to make automated decisions about you, and BeMe does not sell, rent, or lease your personal information to third parties.
  • If you want to do any of these things, or if you want to close your account, you can click here or contact BeMe Customer Support at +1.888.979.7616.

Can we change this Privacy Policy?

  • Yes, we may need to change the Privacy Policy. But if we do, we will let you know through a notice on the website and the app.
